Chili Public Library
Code of Conduct

The Chili Public Library Board of Trustees has adopted the Chili Public Library Code of Conduct in an effort to ensure the comfort and security of patrons and library staff, as well as to protect and preserve the library building, collection, equipment and grounds.  These rules will be firmly enforced by the Chili Public Library staff.  Patrons are urged to report disruptive behavior immediately to library staff so that appropriate steps can be taken.  In order to accomplish this, all library patrons are requested to comply with the rules below.

Children must be attended at all times.

  • Children under age eight must not be left in the Children's room without a parent/guardian
  • Children under age twelve must be accompanied by an adult
  • Chili Public Library staff and board will not assume responsibility for minors remaining on library premises after closing
  • If a unattended child under age twelve is not picked up within 15 minutes after closing, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office will be notified to report an abandoned child

To maintain proper use of library resources and facilities, patrons must refrain from:

  • Consumption of food and alcoholic beverages
  • Sleeping, loitering and/or soliciting
  • Use of restrooms for other than their intended purpose
  • Entering without proper attire, including shoes and shirt
  • Lack of personal hygiene
  • Use of library electrical outlets for personally owned equipment without permission
  • Compensated services (including professional tutoring)

Any disturbance which interferes with the normal use of the library is not allowed.  This includes:

  • Abuse of library cards, computers (hardware and software) and/or policies
  • Cellular phone ringing
  • Harassment and/or profanity directed toward library patrons or staff
  • Illegal, disruptive, disorderly or hazardous behavior

The Chili Public Library is not responsible for personal belongings left in library materials or on library property.

Bicycles are to be stored in the bicycle racks outside the library.

Patrons will be held responsible for any damage to library property or equipment.  Should the security alarm signal, patrons should be prepared to show that all library materials have been properly checked out.

All patrons must comply with the Chili Public Library Internet Policy and the Children's Internet Protection Act.

Library patrons should use courtesy and common sense towards fellow library patrons and library staff alike.

Failure to observe the Code of Conduct may lead to eviction and possible withdrawal of Chili Public Library privileges.  In such cases, the Library Director will notify the patron and local authorities immediately.
