an Amerks game or maybe even the Grand Prize!

The Amerks "Reading Power Play Program"

October 6, 2009 - February 5, 2010
Open to youth in Grades K-12.
Separate drawings for grades K-5 and 6-12.

A Grand prize will be awarded in each age group.

The grand prize winners receive:

2. The opportunity to drop the puck at the game.
3. A catered dinner in the President's Lounge at the Blue Cross Arena
Additional prizes of Amerks memorabilia will be awarded.

Meet the Children's Librarians

Mrs. Otto

Mrs. Otto grew up reading books. Her favorite spot to read was high up in the maple tree in her front yard. As a child, she catalogued all the books she owned and made her own card catalog out of a shoebox, index cards and a pencil. She always wanted to be a librarian, but she didn’t get her wish until she was quite grown up.

She thinks being the children’s librarian at McGraw is the best job in the world. She loves reading stories to children and helping them find books that they will enjoy reading. She likes to visit schools and talk to children about reading. And she really loves it when the children visit the McGraw library and say hi to her.

Some of her favorite books are The Story of Babar by Laurent de Brunhoff, Madeleine by Ludwig Bemelmans, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Black Stallion by Walter Farley, The “Harry Potter” series by J K Rowling, and The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emmuska Orczy.

Miss Mary

Miss Mary is the children’s librarian at the Evans Branch Library. When she was a little girl, she loved reading the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, biographies of famous people, poems, and stories about fairies, elves and magic. She dreamed about fairies and sometimes, she even saw them! Now, as an adult, Miss Mary still likes to read those same kinds of books. See what she is reading now!

She also loves to be outdoors, play with her cat Athena, and spend time with friends and family. She lives in a house that is over 100 years old. Can you imagine the stories and secrets the house could tell, if she could only figure out how to listen to it?

Best of all, she loves being the children’s librarian at the Evans Branch Library where she enjoys sharing stories and talking about books with children of all ages. Please stop in and say hi – she can’t wait to meet you!
