Residential Architecture of the Neighborhood
The styles of residential dwellings in the neighborhood were as varied as the population. They were a combination of single- and multiple- family houses, as can be seen looking at the groupings of people at each address in the house directories. Nuclear family units co-existed in homes filled with boarders. Housing units included a few mansions on West Avenue, working class homes on streets like Arklow Street and apartment buildings in addition to middle class residences.

Most 19th century styles were found in the neighborhood: Greek Revival, Italianate, Tuscan Cottage, Second Empire and Queen Anne among them.
