If you compare the houses on this page with the ones on the Federal style page, you will see a lot of similarities. That's because these houses are built in the Colonial Revival style. Beginning in about 1880, after the American Centennial, people became interested in the early history of the country. They began to search for details in Georgian and Federal styles that they could incorporate into their own homes. Colonial Revival style was common until the 1950's.

Features:

  • Symmetrical shape
  • Central porch or portico with columns
  • Low-pitched or flat roof
  • Often, a detail in the shape of a swan's neck over the windows
