More About the School Heritage Collection
Introduction
Rochester Public Library's Local History Division has over 2000 local school
yearbooks and other school-related items. The library began to digitize these
items in 2008, beginning with the early City of Rochester high school yearbooks,
which are fragile and in the public domain. As more items are digitized this
online list will grow and include more Rochester area schools.
How to view yearbooks
To view the items, simply click on the school and year desired and the file will
open. Some schools have more than one yearbook per year due to having separate
classes beginning in each semester for some years. Once you have opened the file
you want, remember that you can search within the item using keywords as each
document has optical character recognition capability.
Donating items to the library
As extensive as our print collection is, there are still gaps. The library is
always looking for ways to add to our in-house collection and make items
available online. If you have a Rochester area yearbook in good condition which
you would like to donate to the library, please contact the Local History
Division at 428-8370. Moldy or mildewed books are discouraged because they
could contaminate our collection. Autographed copies are acceptable and
encouraged!
